Learning to own a home

When I graduated from college in May, I was determined to be a home owner, but I was not prepared for all of the responsibilities that come with home ownership. I bought a home and set up all of my utilities, and I even looked at different HOME ALARM SYSTEMS since I would be living alone. My dad tried to convince me to rent an apartment for a while until I could save some money, but I decided to start working as soon as I graduated and was able to make my first mortgage payment with plenty of money left over. It crossed my mind to buy a new car too, but I know that I cannot really afford a car payment right now. My parents taught me to manage my moneypretty well, and I always had a summer job when I was in high school and college. I guess you can say that I have not had a real summer break since I was in the ninth grade. I think I am okay with that though because my work ethic allowed me to buy a house when I wanted to.

Happy Halloween

Happy Halloween everyone. I finally got to do something I have always wanted to do since I first moved to Carrollton, Georgia 18 years ago. It is something some people will find creepy but is one of my guilty pleasures. I love to visit cemeteries and I finally visited the official City Cemetery and I have the pictures to prove it. On this trip I did not get any ghosts but I did get some great decorative head stones with some great architecturally appealing designs.

As you know from previous posts I love angels and this cemetery did not disappoint.





 

 

 

I hope you enjoyed these creepy pictures of the Carrollton City cemetery. Thanks to my good friend Amy who helped me find interesting tombstones to take pictures of. Until next time may all your designs be courageous.

I love that we logged onto directtv.com and got a new television service provider. I have gotten addicted to watching “Sex and the City” reruns when I get home from work. It is nice to relax for an hour before I start cooking dinner and cleaning the house. I had forgotten just how much fun and entertaining every episode is. I loved it when it was on, and I still love to watch the reruns. When the first “Sex and the City” movie came out a couple of years ago, I was delighted. I had been waiting for years since the show ended for the movie to come out. It was awesome. All of the characters were the same and they friend group still had the same wonderful dynamic that they had before. I must have watched the first movie at least three times. The second movie installment was a little bit disappointing. It didn’t have the “umph” that the episodes and first movie had. Even though the second movie was disappointing, I will still go see another one if they put it out. I just love the show so much!

My son had been so good in school this year. He’s always had a really hard time learning and he has a lot of issues with focusing so when he worked really hard with his teachers and his tutors to bring all of his grades up my husband and I decided we wanted to do something really special to reward him for all his hard work. We went to HTTP://WWW.ExpertSatellite.com/ and found a good satellite package that had all the sports channels we knew he would like and we gave it to him right after school got out this year. All he’s been doing since then is sitting on the couch watching anything and everything sports related on TV! He absolutely loves it and I’m just glad we were able to think of something he would really get a kick out of and it’s totally worth it if it means he’ll work hard again next year to keep his grades like thy are. He’s a good kid and deserves all the great things that come his way!

• BROWN Benjamin Moore Wood Grain Brown (#2109-30) Brown is great to use to warm up a room, but it is hard to find a good brown. More often than not they have too much red or yellow mixed in, which can make them look muddy. This one has a gray under tone which makes it look more refined.
• RED Benjamin Moore Million Dollar Red (#2003-10) It is often very difficult to find a good red because often they are blended with too much blue or yellow. This red is mixed with the perfect combination of both. It is good for a dining room because it gives a warm flattering cast to skin tones. Everyone will look his or her best at the table. It is also a cozy choice for your family room.
• GREEN Olympic Lettuce Alone (#B68-3) Green, particularly a crisp, clean green like this one, looks great in kitchens, where food and colors abound.Consider it for your bathroom too, where it will be fresh and calming.
• BEIGE Benjamin Moore Early Morning Mist (#1528) This neutral color is somewhere between gray and beige. Because it changes with light, it is extremely adaptable. A foolproof color that works for almost any decorating scheme.
• YELLOW Benjamin Moore Hawthorne Yellow (#HC-4) Yellow works well in rooms that are exposed to little natural light because it brings an element of the Sun. This yellow, neither too lemony nor too golden, is just the right balance of tranquil and turbo charged.
• GRAY Benjamin Moore Gray Owl (#2137-60) A sophisticated alternative to blue this hue is extremely adaptable to all color schemes. It goes with everything.

I hope you love these colors as much as I do. Whether you pick these colors or others for your home just remember to pick colors YOU like. Don't fall prey to what's "IN" (that will change before you have even pried off the lid your paint can.). Look to your favorite color of clothes for inspiration.

Yard work

Yard work. I hate yard work. Especially mowing the yard. I have allergies and mowing the yard makes them react just horribly. Plus I hate gas powered lawn mowers. The vibration, the fumes, the loud engine screaming at me. I really hate it. But since I am a perfectionist I have to do it myself. Ever since I got an electric mower it has made the job of mowing a more enjoyable task.

With an electric mower the engine vibration is a thing of the past. No gas fumes or exhaust. No loud motor humming. Just quiet mowing where, when you are finished, you don't feel like you have been shook to death and you can still hear. I use the Solaris 510121. The great thing about this lawn mower is it has push button starting. No pulling the cord till your arm falls off. It is self propelled. It can cut the average lawn on one charge and has an LED read out that alerts you to how much of a charge you have a left. With the price of gas these days an electric mower just makes sense. Also using an electric mower is greener way to mow your yard since their are no toxic emissions into the atmosphere.

An electric mower can't do much for your allergies but they sure can make yard work enjoyable..

Super Bargain

I wanted to share with one of my super bargains. I found this Angel

at Ross Department Store for $0.49. You read that right 49 cents.

When I turned the angel over and looked at the sticker



Sticker Shock



 I went into reverse sticker shock. I just could not believe it. I was like oh my goodness I have to hurry and buy this before they realize their mistake. So I literally ran to the check out. The cashier was also a little surprised as well but happily rang it for me.

The only thing I can think of was they really wanted to get rid of it. It was after Christmas when I bought it so it was seasonal clearance but it also had some slight damage to it that you can't really tell (I have worked in quality control for most of my career so I really inspected it.). There is a sculpted ribbon coming down that front with cut pieces of mirror embedded in it that looks like some of the pieces are missing.

Whatever reason it was clearanced so much I thanked the Bargain Gods and went on my merry way. The angel is beautiful it is metallic silver with beautiful details. It is holding a delicate little flower you can barely make out in the picture.

Creating a comfortable Bedroom

To me, my bedroom is my sanctuary, my oasis from the troubles of the world. I want to be comfortable in my bedroom. The bed especially has to be comfortable and inviting. Comfortable to lie on and sleep in. I do a lot of reading and writing before I go to sleep at night lying in my bed so it has to be comfortable.

The bedding has to be extra comfortable. I love Candice Olsen Bedding. It is light and comfortable. Like sleeping on a cloud. The line that is my favorite is called "Cloud Nine". I also like Cindy Crawford Bedding. Cindy Crawford's  Designs have  a great sense of style. Wonderful to snuggle up in after a hard days work.

But don't just think of the comfort of the bedding when planning your sanctuary also think of the style. I love Iron Headboards. Iron Head boards create a bedroom with a sense of style and flair. My bedroom has to have the style to make me want to stay in it not just the comfort.

As I said earlier in this post I do a lot of reading and writing in bed before I doze off for the night, a Laptop Bed Desk makes this task a lot easier. I love being able to do this task comfortably while laying in bed getting ready to go to sleep. Is is a convenient and relaxing way to work.
